Transfer an individual to a Different Address Record

People get married, a couple gets divorced, an aging parent moves in with children or an adult child moves out.  All these situations present the need to move an Individual Record from one Address Record to another.

Scenario 1 - A person with both Address and Individual Records in your CDM+ database moves in with another person or persons with an existing Address Record.

For example, this scenario would apply when a church members marry or if aging parents move in with adult children.

A person with both Address and Individual Records in your CDM+ database moves in with another person or persons with an existing Address Record.

For example, this scenario would apply when a church members marry or if aging parents move in with adult children.

Open the Individual Record of the person who is moving and click on the Name tab.

Click Change on the lefthand sidebar. In the Address Information section of the Name pane, click the Select Address button. A new window will open.

Find the Address Record of this person's new family (e.g., new spouse or adult children). Click the correct line once to highlight it and click Select on the righthand sidebar. You will see the Address Information on this Individual Record change to the name and address on the Address Record you selected. Click Save to finish.

If Giving Unit is available in the left-hand sidebar, this individual is related to a Giving Unit Record. Click Giving Unit in the sidebar to open the related Giving Unit record. Click Change on the lefthand sidebar, then click Select Address. Again, a new window will open. Find and highlight the new address, then click Select in the righthand sidebar. Click Save to finish.

If there are additional persons moving, such as children or another elderly parent, repeat the process for their Individual Records.

You will likely need to make some changes to the Address and Individual Records to reflect the changes in the family (such as family status, salutation, last name, married date and place, etc.). If the new family home is a different address, you will need to change that also.

If there are no Individual Records or Giving Units still tied to the second Address Record when you are finished, you may delete it.

Scenario 2 - One person with an Individual Record tied to an Address Record in your CDM+ database moves out and needs a new Address Record. Other Individual Records remain tied to the existing Address Record.

For example, this scenario would apply when a couple divorces or if adult children move out on their own.

Click Change on the lefthand sidebar. In the Address Information section of the Name pane, click the Select Address button. A new window will open.

Create a new Address Record by clicking Add on the righthand sidebar. A new Address Records window will open in add mode. Enter the new address information in that window, and click Save to finish.

If you own CDM+ Contributions, you will be prompted to add a Giving Unit record. Click Yes

The existing Individual Record is now tied to the new Address Record and the new Giving Unit Record. Click Save to finish.

If there are additional persons moving, such as children, follow the steps in Scenario 1 to transfer the remaining individuals.

You will likely need to make some changes to the Address and Individual Records involved to reflect the changes in the family (such as family status, salutation, last name, marital status, etc.).

You may also need to transfer some contributions from the individual's old giving unit to the new giving unit.
